Newborn Photography in Kent: Natural, Relaxed Newborn Photos at Home
Looking for a newborn photographer near you in Kent?
If you've recently had a baby, or you're expecting and starting to think about newborn photographs, you might be wondering whether you need a studio, lots of props or a perfectly behaved sleeping baby to get beautiful photographs. The answer is no.
My newborn photography is relaxed, natural and centred around your baby and your family. Sessions can take place in the comfort of your own home, where you can feed, change, cuddle and settle your baby whenever you need to.
I’m a Kent newborn photographer based in Ashford, and I travel to families across Kent and the surrounding areas, including Tenterden, Canterbury, Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh, New Romney, Dymchurch, Dover, Deal, Faversham, Maidstone and Rye.

Newborn photography that feels like real life
The early weeks with a new baby can be a bit of a blur. There are feeds, nappy changes, contact naps, cuddles, visitors, very little sleep and plenty of moments where you're wondering what day it is.
Your newborn photography session doesn't need to add to the list of things to worry about. I don't expect your baby to sleep through the whole session or behave in a particular way. We can stop for a feed, change a nappy, have a cuddle or take a break whenever you need to.
Some of my favourite newborn photographs are often the simplest ones – tiny fingers, little toes, a baby curled up on a parent's chest, an older sibling meeting their new brother or sister, or those quiet moments between parents and their new baby.

At-home newborn photography in Kent
For many new parents, at-home newborn photography is the easiest option.
There is no need to pack the changing bag, load everyone into the car and try to arrive somewhere at a particular time. Instead, I come to you.
Your home doesn't need to be perfectly tidy either. I don't need a huge house or a dedicated photography room. I'll look for the best light and the spaces that work well for photographs, whether that's your bedroom, the sofa, the nursery or simply somewhere you're comfortable together.
At-home newborn photography also means your photographs can show a little bit of what life was actually like during those first weeks. The cot you've chosen, the nursery you've spent months preparing, the sofa where you've spent hours feeding your baby – these ordinary things become part of your family's story. And if your baby needs a break, everything you need is already right there.

What happens during a newborn photoshoot?
There isn't a strict list of photographs we have to work through.
I'll guide you when needed, but much of the session is about giving you time together and photographing what naturally happens.
We might capture:
Your baby on their own
Tiny details such as hands, feet, eyelashes and facial expressions
Baby being cuddled by mum
Baby being cuddled by dad
Parents together with their new baby
Older brothers and sisters with the baby
The whole family together
Natural interactions between siblings
Feeding and settling moments where appropriate
Baby asleep in your arms
Everyday moments around your home
The photographs don't all have to look the same.
Some can be simple portraits, while others are more natural and candid.
The aim is to create a gallery that shows your baby, your family and what those early days actually felt like.

Do newborn photos have to be taken in the first few days?
No. There is no single perfect age for newborn photography. Some photographers concentrate on very posed newborn photographs during the first couple of weeks. My approach is different.
Because I focus on natural family photography, we can create beautiful photographs whether your baby is a few days old, a few weeks old or a little older. If you've missed the first couple of weeks, don't assume you've missed your chance.
Your baby will simply be different – perhaps more awake, more alert and starting to interact with you. Those changes can make for some lovely photographs too.

Newborn photography for the whole family
Having a new baby isn't just about photographing the baby.
It's about the people who have suddenly become a family of three, four or more.
If you have older children, I'll include them too. There is no expectation that they need to sit perfectly or smile at the camera. We can photograph them cuddling their new brother or sister, looking at the baby, interacting with mum and dad, or simply doing what they normally do.
And parents are an important part of the photographs too.
It's very easy for one parent to end up behind the camera taking all the pictures. Your newborn session is a chance to make sure you're actually in the photographs with your baby.

Natural newborn photography rather than lots of posing
If you love photographs that feel relaxed and natural rather than heavily posed, an at-home newborn session could be a great fit.
I don't want your photographs to feel like a series of set-ups that could belong to anyone.
Instead, I'll use simple prompts and gentle direction to help you interact with your baby.
You don't need to know how to pose. I'll tell you where to stand or sit when it helps, then give you space to cuddle, look at your baby, talk to each other and enjoy the moment.
That usually creates photographs that feel much more like you.

Affordable newborn photography in Kent
If you've been searching for affordable newborn photography in Kent, you don't necessarily need to spend hundreds of pounds on a large studio package with lots of props and complicated set-ups.
My newborn photography package is £169 and includes a relaxed 60–90 minute session, either at your home or at a suitable Kent location, together with your full edited digital gallery.
The session includes parents, baby and siblings, so you don't need to book separate photographs for each member of your family.
You also receive three black-and-white images, with the option to purchase additional black-and-white images if you would like them.
I want the experience to feel straightforward and enjoyable, without making you feel that you need to buy a huge collection of extras to have a complete set of photographs.
Looking for a female newborn photographer?
If you've been searching for a female newborn photographer in Kent, you may also be looking for someone who will make the experience feel relaxed and comfortable, particularly during those early weeks when you're still getting used to life with a new baby.
Your session can be completely centred around your family.
There's no need to dress your baby in complicated outfits or bring lots of props. Bring yourselves, your baby and whatever you normally need for a couple of hours at home. I'll take care of the photography.

Newborn photographer in Ashford, Kent
I'm based in Ashford, Kent, making newborn photography at home particularly convenient for families in Ashford and the surrounding villages.
I also regularly work across the wider Kent area, so you don't need to be based in Ashford to book.
I photograph families in and around:
Ashford • Tenterden • Canterbury • Folkestone • Hythe • Romney Marsh • New Romney • Dymchurch • Dover • Deal • Faversham • Maidstone • Rye

Newborn photography in Canterbury, Folkestone, Dover and beyond
Whether you're looking for a newborn photographer in Canterbury, newborn photography in Folkestone, a baby photographer in Dover or an at-home newborn photographer near Tenterden, I can travel to your home.
I also cover families around Hythe, Romney Marsh, New Romney, Dymchurch, Deal, Faversham, Maidstone and Rye, as well as the smaller villages and surrounding areas.
You don't have to travel into Ashford for your newborn photos.
In fact, for many families, staying at home is exactly what makes the session easier.
What should we wear for newborn photographs?
You don't need a special wardrobe. For photographs at home, I generally recommend simple, comfortable clothes in light or neutral colours that you feel good wearing.
There's no need for everyone to match exactly.
Soft, natural colours tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family rather than what you're wearing.
For your baby, keep it simple too. A sleepsuit, vest or whatever they're already comfortable in is absolutely fine.
These photographs are about this stage of your life, not creating a perfectly styled scene.

When should you book your newborn photographer?
You can enquire at any point, but booking during pregnancy is useful if you'd like to have your session planned before your baby arrives.
Because newborns don't always arrive exactly when expected, we can work around your due date and confirm the actual session date once your baby is here.
And if you've already had your baby and only just started thinking about newborn photographs, get in touch anyway.
You may not have missed the opportunity at all.
Newborn photography that grows with your family
Your newborn photographs don't have to be the only photographs you have during your baby's first year. If you'd like to document more of those changes, I also offer baby and family photography sessions, including options that can take you from pregnancy through the first year.
You could choose photographs during pregnancy, your newborn session, a six-month session or your baby's first birthday – creating a collection of photographs showing how quickly everything changed.
