Here are my top family-friendly photography locations in and around Kent – ideal for summer holiday adventures, family photoshoots, or just enjoying quality time together.


1. Beach Days

A trip to the seaside is always a hit when it comes to summer days out with kids. The beach offers the perfect setting for fun, freedom, and stunning photos – from sandcastle building to splashing in the waves.

📍 Best beaches in Kent for families: Camber Sands (just over the border in Sussex) or Greatstone beach (very similar scenery but a stone's throw from Ashford) or Folkestone. These beaches are perfect for morning strolls or evening golden hour light.

2. Woodland Walks

Woodlands are a great option for summer activities with kids – shady, cool, and full of opportunities to explore. Kids love discovering trails, climbing logs, and spotting wildlife – and the dappled light makes for beautifully atmospheric photos.

📍 Explore: King's Wood, Hamstreet Woods, or The Warren, all very central to Ashford with great parking and accessibility.

📍 Top tip: Look for public meadows or nature reserves like Hothfield Heathlands or the meadows near Wye for a more laid-back day out. I have found some incredible meadow locations this year, close to Ashford but undiscovered by many so please do let me know if you'd like to take advantage of these!

📍 Favourite locations: The Kent Downs AONB or the footpaths in the beautiful villages surrounding Ashford are always a great shout.
