Small Wedding & Registry Office Wedding Photography in Kent

Not every wedding needs to be a whole day. If you're planning a small wedding with your closest family and friends, a registry office ceremony, or simply don't want a big traditional wedding with a photographer there from morning until night, you can still have beautiful photographs that tell the story of your day.

I offer relaxed, natural wedding photography for small weddings, registry office ceremonies and intimate celebrations across Kent – with a focus on the people, the moments and the bits you'll actually want to remember.

No big production. No spending the whole day having your photo taken. Just photographs that feel like you.

A wedding day that doesn't need to be a full-day wedding

Perhaps you're getting married at a registry office with just your closest family.

Maybe you've booked a small ceremony and are heading out for lunch afterwards.

Perhaps you're having a small wedding with 10, 20 or 30 guests and don't need a photographer for the entire day.

Or maybe you simply want someone there for the important part – family photographs and some relaxed photographs of the two of you afterwards. That's exactly the kind of wedding photography I offer.

You don't need to plan a huge reception or an evening party to make your wedding worth photographing.

Registry office wedding photography in Canterbury

A Canterbury registry office wedding can be a lovely option for couples who want the legal ceremony without a large traditional wedding.

Registration of marriages and civil partnerships is at Wellington House on St Stephen's Road in Canterbury, and Kent has register offices and licensed ceremony venues across the county.

For a small registry office wedding, you might only need a couple of hours of photography.

I can photograph the important parts of the day, including:

  • You arriving and seeing your guests

  • The ceremony

  • Your first moments as a married couple

  • A few group photographs with your closest family

  • Individual family combinations you don't want to forget

  • Natural photographs of everyone chatting and enjoying the day

  • Some relaxed photographs of just the two of you

  • Any special details or little moments that happen along the way

The aim isn't to turn a short wedding into a full-day photoshoot. It's to make the most of the time you have.

Small wedding photography at Abbots Mill Gardens, Canterbury

For a recent small wedding in Canterbury, we headed to Abbots Mill Garden after the ceremony.

It was a lovely example of how little you actually need for a wedding day to have plenty of opportunities for photographs.

Rather than spending hours taking formal photographs, we used the gardens as a backdrop for a mixture of family photographs, photographs of the couple and natural moments as everyone enjoyed being together. This is particularly well suited to couples who want their photographs to feel relaxed rather than overly posed.

You can have the important family photographs – grandparents, parents, siblings and the people who came to celebrate with you – without spending ages lining everyone up.

Then we can move on, walk around, chat, explore the surroundings and let the photographs happen more naturally.

Natural wedding photography for small groups

One of the things I love about smaller weddings is that you actually have time to enjoy the people you're with. With a smaller guest list, there's no need to spend a huge part of the day disappearing off for photographs. I'll help organise the group photographs so we can get the combinations you want quickly, then we'll move on to something more relaxed.

For the couple photographs, I won't expect you to stand and pose for a long list of traditional shots. Instead, I'll give you simple things to do – walking, chatting, looking at each other, taking a moment together – and photograph what happens naturally.

The result is a mixture of photographs that show who was there, what the day felt like and the relationships between you, rather than a gallery full of people looking at the camera.

Small weddings across Kent

Although this wedding was in Canterbury, I photograph small weddings and registry office weddings across Kent and the South East.

That includes weddings in and around:

  • Canterbury

  • Ashford

  • Tenterden

  • Folkestone

  • Hythe

  • Dover

  • Deal

  • Maidstone

  • Faversham

  • Rye and the surrounding East Sussex area

  • Romney Marsh

Whether you're getting married at a registry office, a small licensed venue, a garden, a restaurant or another location that means something to you, I'm happy to travel.

You don't have to have an evening reception

If you're having a daytime wedding and finishing with lunch, dinner or a small gathering, you don't need to book a photographer until late into the evening just because that's what traditional wedding packages are built around.

Your photography can finish when your wedding day naturally starts to wind down.

For some couples, that might mean photographing the ceremony and family groups before heading somewhere beautiful for a few photographs together.

For others, it might mean staying for lunch and photographing some of the relaxed moments afterwards.

Your wedding doesn't have to look like everyone else's – and your photography doesn't either.

Wedding photography for couples who don't want lots of posing

If the thought of spending your wedding day being directed into endless poses doesn't appeal to you, we're probably a good fit.

My approach is relaxed, natural and fairly hands-off.

I'll step in when I need to – particularly for the important family photographs – but otherwise I want you to spend your wedding day enjoying yourselves.

You don't need to know what to do in front of the camera.

I'll give you a little direction when it's helpful, while leaving plenty of room for the natural interactions and moments that happen when you're simply with the people you love.
