Thinking about booking a family photoshoot? Got a four-legged friend at home? Then you’ve got the perfect reason to bring your dog along and get them involved in the fun!
As a family photographer in beautiful, scenic Kent, I absolutely love when clients bring their four-legged family members to a session. It makes the shoot more relaxed and personal and always helps to bring those smiles and giggles to adults and children alike.
Here’s why your pup deserves a spot in your next family photoshoot:
1. Dogs Are Part of the Family
Let’s be honest—your dog isn’t just a pet. They’re family. They’re the ones who greet you at the door, cuddle up on the sofa, and make life that little bit brighter. So, when you’re capturing memories with your loved ones, why leave them out?
2. They Help Everyone Relax
Not everyone loves being in front of the camera. But bring your dog along, and suddenly, there’s a natural distraction—something (or someone!) to cuddle, play with, or laugh at when they do something silly. It helps create those genuine, unposed moments that make family photos so special.
3. They Add Fun & Personality
Dogs have their own quirks, and that’s what makes them so brilliant in photos! Whether it’s a goofy head tilt, a mid-air jump, or just a big slobbery grin, they bring an energy that makes your pictures uniquely you.
4. Outdoor Sessions Are Perfect for Pups
If you’re having an outdoor family photoshoot (which is usually the best way to get those natural, relaxed shots anyway), it’s the ideal setting for your dog. They can run, explore, and just be themselves—no awkward posing required!
5. You'll Treasure the Memories
One day, these photos will be even more valuable than you realise. Dogs may not be with us forever, but the memories you create with them are. Having beautiful, professional photos of your pup alongside your family is something you’ll cherish for years to come.

Bonus Tip: How to Make It Work
Bringing your dog to a shoot? Here are a few quick tips:
🐾 Bring treats or a favourite toy to keep them engaged.
🐾 Make sure they’ve had a little exercise beforehand (a tired dog = a happy, cooperative model!).🐾 Don’t stress! If they want to run around or be a bit cheeky, we’ll roll with it—it’s all part of the fun.
